History of First Avenue
Minneapolis, Minnesota is known for the Minnesota Sound and First Avenue & 7th St Entry are two music venues housed in the same landmark building in Downtown Minneapolis.
Jimmy Jam and his 11-piece Mind & Matter were able to break through with bookings by McClellan in the 19070s. Prince was booked in 1981, for $2,500 plus part of the gate and this was later known as the Prince explosion.
The nightclub has been the hub for many bands that have come out of the Twin Cities known for it's Minnesota Sound, including Prince, The Revolution, Mint Condition, Brother Ali, and so many other artists.
